My philosophy is that mind and body are connected and I believe to heal one, the other will need to be healed too. At times are minds are the only thing that blocks are energy from flowing naturally. When we begin to clear the blockages that reside within us, we begin to breath new air allowing our bodies to return to its natural rhythm.
The power of touch is needed in our society, more so now as we have become a world communicating by different mediums. Compassionate touch has been replaced by the mere text and funny emoji. A face to face conversation has been replaced by brief video messages and emails. A majority of us are so busy taking selfies, that we lose sight of the true self in the reflection of the mirror. Providing "space" to be you, if only for a few minutes, allows healing to take place within.
I provide healing to others for I believe the power of touch is essential, just like our breath. Looking back I always was the child that wanted to heal the broken, wipe the tears, lift the fallen. From broken wings, to broken spirits, I found myself surrounded by the broke, and knew that I belonged. I would find, or they would find me, those connections that resonated with the giving and receiving of healing energy. It's not rocket science, a simple hug can create healing instantaneously in the body. Anyone can do it! Sooooo simple!
In my teens, after recovering from a major car accident, my life led me to Rose. She was one of those teachers that opened my eyes to the world, and led me on a path of exploration of my mind and my body, all the while kicking my ass. Tough love, like a second mom! It led me to pursue massage, Reiki, energy healing, balancing, reflexology, hypnotherapy, and I was influenced by a large array of metaphysical modalities and communities alike.
Death was also something that I was quite often drawn to and this led my path to nursing, and working with the elderly, and where my fondness for those with dementia blossomed. After the birth of my son, I spent many years as a medical/mental heal biller, and still provided healing on the side. In 2011, I became a non-traditional student at my local community college pursuing my Associates in Human Services. I moved onward to West Chester University where I obtained my Bachelors of Social and work and then became a graduate student of their Advanced Standing Program for my Master of Social Work. For my practicum internship site for both my undergraduate and graduate degree I chose hospice. After the first two weeks in my undergraduate internship, I knew hospice was my path. After graduate school, my practicum internship site hired me as their Bereavement / Volunteer Coordinator.
I facilitate hospice bereavement groups, comfort the dying, help loved ones cope their losses, coordinate wonderful amazing volunteers, and still make time for healing on the side. I have found along my path that the stages of grief exist in our daily lives, not just for the dying and their loved ones. If we are unable to provide the time for our bodies to grieve and mourn, then our bodies will at some point be unable to continue their normal path. One of the phrases I have created in the bereavement group is that, "if we continue to suppress what is within us, it will slowly tear us down. Express, don't suppress!" In my work, whether it be comforting the dying, and their loved ones, or providing a healing to someone, my main intentions is compassion. I am here to listen, to connect and to heal. I can't preach self-care if I don't do it right? Right!!! So, Here is a list and some photos of some of my interests that keep me sane, and able to provide support to those in need.
